The bio: Un’hee is a Chiss sky-walker who was captured by the Grysk Hegemony at the age of 5. Ar’alani, Eli, and Thrawn discover Un’hee, now 7 years old, as the sole survivor on a Grysk observation post captured by the Empire. The Grysk kill all personnel on the station before its capture, but accidentally spare Un’hee, mistaking a sensory-depravation recovery technique as her being already dead. Un’hee and Ar’alani’s sky-walker, Vah’nya, engage in the Chiss equivalent of the Vulcan mind meld in an attempt to uncover Grysk secrets.
From the books:
“No,” Un’hee said. “They use others as their navigators. Other peoples, some trained by the Attendants. I was the only Chiss. I was—”
A wave of pain and fear swept across her face. “A gift.”
Why she’s a favorite: Un’hee’s brief appearances in the canon Thrawn books belie her importance—both to readers and the larger story. She’s one of the first personified sky-walkers, a key part of the post–Legends Chiss mythology. She’s also an immensely sympathetic character, the brave young survivor of a horrible captivity. Her rescue represents a breakthrough in the Chiss campaign against the Grysk. And her Second Sight–bonding with Vah’nya makes her instinctively loyal to Eli Vanto—just like your average Thrawn book reader.
